There are table humidors with glass panels, display cases, humidor chests, humidor cabinets, travel humidors, and cigar holders. If you want to store cigars for a longer period, a humidor is essential. Cigars need a certain level of moisture and temperature to maintain their flavor, continue presenting their aromas, and mature over time.

What to Consider When Buying a Humidor
Cigars should be stored at a humidity level of around 65-75%. Depending on personal preference, the type of cigar, and its intended use, a humidor should not just aim for the standard 70%. The humidor should ensure that the oils in the cigar are preserved. For long-term storage, humidity levels between 60-70% relative humidity are typically chosen. For consumption, many cigar smokers prefer values well above 70%. The primary goal is always preservation. Cigar storage is not a rigid process.
If you've developed a passion for cigars or are in the process of doing so, buying a humidor is essential. Our GERMANUS humidors cover the full range of cigar storage options. The majority of humidors are smaller or larger chests. Depending on the model, the lid of the humidor may have a glass window, allowing you to inspect your cigars without opening the humidor. Some models are intricately decorated. Most designs are rectangular, though some table humidors are multi-sided with a rectangular base. We value a simple, classic appearance, though we're not opposed to creative designs. For example, our pink humidor is an experimental design. We're open to inspiration. The GERMANUS Cowling humidor, for instance, was designed after the grille of a mid-20th century car radiator. The materials used are primarily wood, with cedar wood (Cedro, Spanish cedar veneer) on the inside. The distinct aroma of this wood is intentional and a hallmark of quality. It supports the aging and development of the cigar's flavors.
Correct Storage Conditions for Cigars
If you were to store your cigars openly or in a drawer under typical Central European conditions, you wouldn't enjoy them for long. They would need to be smoked within a few days. It's equally detrimental to store your cigars under too low or too high humidity levels. If cigars are too dry, their wrapper can break, and unsightly cracks may form when cutting them, allowing air to enter. Dryness causes the moisture and, over time, the oils, resins, tannins, and waxes in the cigars to evaporate. As with everything in life, panic is not a good advisor in cigar storage. These substances remain in the cigar for a while before they eventually evaporate. Storing cigars too dry for a long time is certainly not a good idea and will harm your cigar in the long term: The flavors become sharp, and the cigar loses its smooth roundness. A dry cigar can no longer taste buttery. You can easily determine the moisture content of the cigar even without experience: A dry cigar is more prone to damage and will break. Pressing gently on the lit end, if the cigar doesn't respond elastically, means it is too dry. On the other hand, cigars that are too moist are also unpleasant: They burn poorly, and once saturated, they will not draw well. In extreme cases, mold or mite infestations may occur. Don't worry, though; such problems are rare and require a significant lack of care in storage.
It is clear that the moisture content should be within a certain range. We recommend between 60-75%, depending on preference and intended use. You will therefore need a proper humidification system.
Humidification Systems for Cigars

Electronic and Digital Humidor Humidifiers
In the digital age, there are also digital humidor humidifiers. A moisture sensor measures the humidity and releases moisture through a fan that circulates the air based on the sensor's reading. These systems are simple, but like all technical devices, they are prone to malfunction. A digital humidifier works only as well as the sensor measures. If the sensor works well, it can achieve the desired range. However, inaccurate sensors or malfunctions can cause problems. Therefore, even a digital humidor humidifier does not replace careful attention. GERMANUS humidifiers rely on passive functions, making them straightforward and reliable.
